Dad's Story.
Within four weeks of having completed my training at Ceres in Wetherby, I was drafted from HMS Pembroke to the London and under the guidance of C.P.O. Writer P. Midgley took up my duties in the Pay Office. The date March 1947.

What were my thoughts and impressions when first boarding London in Chatham Dockyard? I am sure the weather didn't help, overcast, cold and a little damp but the ship could not by any stretch of the imagination be described as the "Lovely London". She was swarming with more dockyard "mateys" than crew, was grubby, untidy above and below decks and I was reminded of the oft spoken phrase "You shouldn't have joined if you can't take a joke".
