The secondary coil
| The secondary coil is wound onto a piece of 4.25"dia PVC
pipe with an end cap on both ends and is 13.4" high, As we later found out the coil could have been another 2-3 inches longer and this would have given better results. Look at 750-1000 turns on your coil. |
|
Most coils should have a HD ratio between 1:3 and 1:5 After the
coil was wound it was covered with 5 coats of clear varnish. This
helps to stop the wire from moving and helps with the insulation
of the coil.
The wire is 0.72mm enamel coated magnet wire. I left
about 1 1/4" at the top and
bottom of the coil. This coil was wound in a lathe and only took 40 mins or so to do. When you wind your coil make sure you leave 8"-10" of wire top and bottom unwound this will be for the connection of the top load and the earth connection at the base of the coil. Also made sure you do not kink or over lap the wire. |
