Transformers

Brian & I use two types of transformers:-

Neon sign transformers (NST) and Oil burning ignition transformers (OBIT)  Non Current limiting distribution transformers (Pole pig)

NST--Most British units do not exceed 10kV @ 18 to 30+ mA, where as the US unit come in voltages up to 15kV and up to 120mA (that darn big).

OBIT--The obit is usually lower in voltage and current output, a typical unit would be in the range of 7.5kV @ 18mA or there about's (the one that we have is 10kV at 50mA) it came from ***** well you'll just have to ask Brian when you see him.

Below is one of our 7.5kV 18mA OBIT's the mains input are on the right and the HV output is in the left.

POLE PIG--This is a monster it's 11.55kV output BUT it's not current limited. Just in case anybody is wondering the pig weighs in at 380lbs.

As the pole pig is not current limited we need to use an external ballast, to see our ballast click HERE
