You can mail order from foreign countries into the UK as long as the items are for personal use and don't violate any laws. (Like those for weapons or endangered species.) If the value is above £35, you have to pay import duty and above £18 you have to pay VAT.  However, collecting the duty is the responsibility of the carrier (usually the Post Office) and they sometimes don't. Be prepared, though!

If you want to import toiletries or supplies and then sell them, the items will have to be certified just as if you made it yourself. If you are really determined, there are links for the Department of Trade and Customs on the previous page. A bottle of gin and a large pack of paracetemol will help.

It's a good idea to email foreign suppliers FIRST to enquire if they are willing to ship, and how much it will cost. For glass bottles and containers, it's cheaper to start a factory here than pay the shipping.

 Note about FO's: I have been told that certain FO's cannot be shipped from the US because of the low flash point. Check before you get your heart set on one.
