23rd Didcot Cub Scouts

Didcot District Sports Day - June 2002
This was held on Friday 14 June 2002, in Didcot. All the groups from the District attended, making a total of just over 50 Cub Scouts. 23rd Didcot had 15 Cub Scouts who attended this event & they all completed various stages of their Athletes Badge. When the overall scores were added up, 12th Didcot were the winners.

Golden Jubilee Celebration Party - May 2002
On Friday 31st May, the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts all put away their uniform for the night & arrived in fancy dress from the 50's & in the colours of the union jack. The hall & grounds were awash with red, white & blue. 50's style funfair type stalls were set up for everyone to visit. They included - Coconut shy, Hoopla, Boules, How many pegs can you take off a line with one hand, Balls in bucket, Penalty kick & you could even toast your own Marshmallows over a fire. Everyone settled down to a 50's afternoon tea of sandwiches, jelly & cake, before revisiting the stalls again. All the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts went home with a cardboard jubilee bookmark to colour in.

Harry Potter April Camp - 2002
With packed rucksacks & tents, 15 Cubs made their way to Sutton for the first Camp of the year. Loads of fun activities were planned, including Wide Games, Mini Pioneering & some badge work. The Scouts from Britwell, who stopped over on their Cycle Camp for the night, joined us. The weather was bright & sunny all weekend & all had a great time. The highlight of the weekend was the " Burger Packs " that the Cubs made & cooked backwards style on open fires.

Didcot District Football Challenge
This was held on Sunday 24 February 2002, in Didcot. 23rd Didcot enter two teams, both who played very well on the day. 23rd Didcot A Team went onto play in the finals & brought home the Cup to 23rd Didcot, for the second year running. Congratulations to Matthew C, Laurie, Jamie, Tim W & Thomas O, who all played brilliantly.

Didcot District Activity Day Sunday 14th October 2001
2001 A Space Odyssey 75 Cubs from all around the District were transported on a journey around outer space. After booking into Mission Control they embarked on 8 different activities with an outer space theme.

Oxfordshire County Bonner Trophy September 2001
This is a County Trophy held in recognition of all the work that Edna Bonner has & still puts into Scouting. Wallingford District hosted this year's Bonner Trophy. On Saturday 29 September, Shere Khan from 23rd Didcot & Akela from Harwell set off to Wallingford with 3 Cubs from each pack. The day was split into lots of challenge bases, in the morning the Cubs & Leaders took parts in the Wallingford Quiz, then after a quick lunch, settled down into the afternoon challenges. These included building a raft & making sure it floated, and a first aid incident. The Leaders were on hand to advise the Cubs, as & when needed. After the scores were added up, the Didcot District Team were the overall winners & brought the Cup home to Didcot District, for the first time ever. Congratulations to Philip, Lloyd & Martin along with Helen from 23rd Didcot & Adam, Alex and Daniel with Alison from Harwell

Pokamone September Camp - 2001
On a very sunny day in September 19 Cubs with packed rucksack's made their way to Youlbury for a fun packed weekend. Some of the Cubs had never been away before, were as many had. Loads of fun activities were planned, including Artery, Mini Pioneering & some badge work. The weather held out all weekend & a great time was had by all. One Cub even asked if everyone could stay another night.

Didcot District Cycling Event
This was held on Monday 10th September 2001. 23rd Didcot did well in all the races & when the final scores were added up, we brought home the Cup to 23rd Didcot, this been the 3rd Event that we have won this year. Congratulations to Martin, Lloyd, Shaun W, Robert, Joss, Laurie, Jamie, Tim B, Thomas O, Tim W & Thomas B for taking part.

Space Camp 2001
This was a regional Camp held @ Phasels wood in Hertfordshire. Shere Khan & Rachsar, both from 23rd Didcot, took 6 Cubs from 23rd Didcot & 1st Harwell Cubs for a week of fun. Trips to the Zoo, Museum & Greenwich were planned, along with many on site activities. Both Cubs & Leaders had loads of fun.

Snoopy Summer Camp 2001
On May 30, a small group of the Cubs & Leaders made their way to Youlbury Camp Site, for the first Summer Cub Camp, for many years. Lots of activities were planned, from badge work bases to a balloon sports day.

Didcot District Sports Day
This was held on Friday 22 June 2001, in Didcot. 23rd Didcot had 16 Cub Scouts who attended this event & they all completed vapours stages of their Athletes Badge. When the overall scores were added up, 23rd Didcot & 12th Didcot were joint winners.

Adventure Crest & Award Night
Congratulations to John G, Chris, Ben C & Martin for gaining their Adventure Crest Awards on Friday 25 May 2001. We had a special evening, with the parents joining us & ALEC ADC Cub Scouts presented all the Awards. Congratulations also to Lloyd, Philip & Thomas L who received there Adventure Awards. Lloyd & Philip were promoted from Seconders to Sixers & received their Sixer Stripes & Thomas & Shaun gained their Seconder Stripes, after they all renewed their promise & Shere Khan received her Woodbeads. After a singsong & jokes, we then said goodbye to John G, Ben & Chris, as they went off to Scouts, after been welcomed by their Scout Leaders.

Congratulations to John G, Ben, Martin, Robert, Dominic, Thomas O, Thomas B & Matthew, who all played brilliantly.
