23rd Didcot Cub Scouts Past Events |
Star date 03.05.2008 and Youlbury is transported to a Galaxy far away.
On Tatooine the Stormtroopers Scouts and Jedi Cubs are protecting the Ewok Beavers
and Obi Bin Kanobi is collecting the rubbish !
This is what happens when you ask the members what they want their camp theme to be.
Star Wars was the 'universal' shout and so with the Star Wars annual and a couple of videos to watch
Akela set about devising activities on a space theme.
We used fantastic material from Orinoco scrapstore (well we have to save the planet somehow!) to make light sabers
from fluorescent tube boxes and then used natural materials to make camp gadgets -
Obi BIN kanobi was the best bin ever and saved the scraps from ending up on the grass.
Working hotair balloons (mildly dangerous but not to the point of causing UFO sightings), paper planes
and constellations all appeared on the horizon - not to be confused with the displays from Abingdon Air show
over the same weekend. Beavers, cubs and scouts completed their Jedi training by taking part in 'Pod' karting,
archery, climbing, rifles, abseiling and crate stacking as well as a fair amount of washing up and cooking!
Cubs and Scouts prepared Star Wars entertainment for our hosts at the 12th Didcot campfire and subsequently
earned their Entertainer Badges before giving us the most fantastic light saber show when they created a
rolling, circular mexican wave of light around the camp site.
It was also a wonderful opportunity to carry on the old traditions - Cubs and Scouts were invested under the
same Flagpole that museum curator John Kirby was invested in the early 1940's - making gadgets, lighting fires
and playing wide games, as well as trying out the newer activities.
May 2008 District Football Competition.
23rd entered 2 teams and came home as Winners and Runners up.
