George Bolton, former sexton and general factotum at the Church, enjoyed researching Mass Houses. Between the years 1971-1973 he visited Mr Wilson at Newhouse Farm, Brindle Road (originally known as Back Gregson Lane). Mr Wilson told him about a stained glass window that had been found during alterations to the cottage - up until then it had been invisible from either the inside or outside.
Mr Wilson generously gave the window to the parish and it is now on display in the church porch with a tribute plaque to George.
The glass panel shows the eagle of St John. Perhaps there were originally other panels for the other evangelists.
The style of the roundels and shape of the individual pieces of glass are similar to the St Benedict window in the dining room of Stansfield House.
