The Largs and District Historical Society hosts monthly Lectures given by invited speakers on a wide range of topics, mainly related to the town of Largs and the surrounding area, during the months of September to April. There are day, half-day and evening outings to places of interest during the summer months.
A Marine Section within the Society also hosts monthly talks during the winter months and organises visits to places of interest, for those members with interests in Maritime subjects.
The Society holds extensive information files relating to Largs and district. Enquirers about a particular subject should write to the Society's Research Secretary at the address given at the top of this page, enclosing an addressed envelope for a reply, pre-paid for UK inland postage, or accompanied by an International Reply Coupon for enquiries from outside the UK.
The Society has a small Museum in Kirkgate House, staffed by volunteer Society members, which is open to the public in the afternoons, Mondays to Saturdays inclusive, during the months of June, July and August. Visits to the Museum may also be arranged at other times by prior arrangement with the Society (the address for correspondence is given at the top of this page).
The Museum has displays on the history of the town and the surrounding area, local family history, overseas links especially with Australia, the ship HMS LARGS, and so on. Each year a special themed display is prepared for the Museum's opening in June, July and August.
