What is a Post Natal Doula:

A Doula is an experienced mother, trained to be employed on a short term basis specifically to help the family adjust to the birth of a new baby. A Doula will do whatever she feels necessary in order to help the mother during those essential first weeks. This can be anything from help and support with the new born, light house work, some cooking and sometimes care of siblings. Ideally the Doula works with the mother and not for her, as this is generally found to be the most effective way of ensuring that the mother gains experience and confidence in her own mothering skills.

My Service:

My aim as a Post Natal Doula is to help moms and babies get off to a really good start.

  • Support during the transitional period from hospital to home.
  • Reassuring and supporting the mom.
  • Help with establishing feeding (breast/bottle).
  • Light housework.
  • Care of siblings.
  • Preparing meals.

Post Natal Doula hours are flexible but she will usually work for a few hours a day for up to six weeks. It depends on the mother and on the Doula's availability.

Fees:

My fee is £14 an hour and depending on the distance of travel, I may charge mileage (0,34p).

About Me:

I'm a South African and am married to Michael. We have two children, Brittney born in 1996 and Wade born in 2001. We have been living in the UK since 1999 and consider this our home. I worked in the Supreme Court in S.A. as a Judge's Clerk before we decided to start a family and since then, have been a full time stay at home mom. I did a spell of childminding just before my son was born, but feel that I could be of more help to mothers with new babies and find I get such enjoyment from helping them.
