VFR Diary
01/04/2000Spotted the bike in local paper
Jap import in need of work with a small price tag
Could be a bargain.. (I hope!!!)
08/04/2000Went to have a look at it
Ummed and aaahhed alot.. kicked tyres etc..
Oh no .. I think Im in love
15/04/2000Finally Parted with some cash and its mine
Strapped it into the works van for an easy drive home
Managed about 2 miles before it fell over.. Doh
Drive more slowly for the rest of the way!
Running rough when I get it home and cuts out after riding a mile up the road, help! Hopefully its just gunk in the carbs
18/04/2000Discover fuel tank is blessed ( Holey!), Work out how to remove the thing before rust ridden fuel floods garage
Think I need a manual!!
26/04/2000Searches on the web reveal the Honda Motorcycle Technical Help Bawd a mine of useful information
Leave a query and Perry from Partspartners.com points me in the right direction
Also manage to track down a new tank from Sea Star Super Bikes The joys of the Web
02/05/2000New Tank arrives, its the wrong colour n has a few small dents, but hey, it holds Petrol!
Add dent removal and respray to winter jobs todo
04/05/2000My shiney new Haynes Manual arrives.. now I'll vaguely know what Im doing :-)
10/05/2000Heading slowly towards the Carbs, air box removal hampered by seized nuts
17/05/2000Trusty Impact driver to the rescue, dunno how I coped without one!!
26/05/2000Finally manage to remove the carbs, time to annoy housemates by stripping them down on the kitchen table
06/2000Removal of first float bowl reveals a host of green slime, n skank.. yech! Hope this works.
29/07/2000 A Query on the Honda tech Bawd, suggests boiling bits in soapy water, works well on the float bowls, jets need a bit of scrubbing in carb cleaner
08/08/2000Aaargh, just found out how much a new set of seals for the carbs cost!! £32 per carb!! Cunning plan develops using O-ring repair kit from Farnell Catalogue, Manage to sort some seals for the lot for under £20!
14/08/2000 Manage to coax the carbs back onto bike, phew! Remove radiator to get at front spark plugs, so take the chance to drain n flush it.
19/08/2000Spend the weekend putting the various bits back on.Saturday Check n change the plugs, theyre all sparking nicely.actually fires up n runs smooth saturday nite .. Wahey
Early sunday, coax the front fairing back on and knock out some Mph stickers for the clocks. Try to ignore condition of front tyre sidewalls and manage a quick 4mile blast before giving in to self preservation instincts. That front tyre is scarey..
Needs a new chain n front tyre but I'm Skint until end of month :-(
