Judd GV5 Top End Re-Design
In 2005 Engine Developments Ltd (Judd racing engines)
Decided to design a completely new top end for the already
Succesful GV5 sports car engine. The aim being to reduce size and weight whilst still
maintaining the engines’ performance advantage.
Judd used TSMD to take their 2D concept and convert it into 3D solid models and production drawings. As the project progressed TSMD worked closely with Judd on engineering solutions to various packaging, performance and Manufacturing issues.
The pattern equipment for the cylinder head and cam cover Castings were produced directly from TSMD models. The CNC Machining was also programmed directly from TSMD models.
The GV5 S2 engine (as it is now designated) is over 20kg lighter than it’s predecessor and has been very successful, including achieving 2nd place on it’s Le Mans debut in 2006.
The project was completed on time and to budget.
