Hammered Dulcimer
The Dulcimer,`sweet sound, is thought to have been invented
around 2,000 years ago in Persia. It was such a versatile instrument
that it spread throughout many cultures, and, with the addition
of keys the Piano was born. The Piano grew and was refined into
the instrument we know today, with the result that it`s parent was
nearly forgotten. Today, the Hammered Dulcimer is undergoing
something of a renaissance, modern technology has allowed anyone
to be able to tune the instrument in a very short time. Todays players
are creating Folk, Early, Classical and Contemporary music on this
magical sounding instrument.
All dulcimers are constructed using a quality hardwood frame with
Birch laminated soundboard (tone wood by request) and bottom.
The sound holes (except Table-Top models) have an inlay surround.
A single leg, a pair of playing hammers and a tuning key are supplied
with the instrument. I am also able to supply chromatic, electronic
tuners by request.
In addition I am able to make variations to suit your individual
requirements or playing style, including additional inlay and decorative
frames. I undertake commissions to build copies of existing or
new instruments. I also offer a repair and restoration service.
