Do I have to be a certain age to take
lessons?
I am experienced in teaching all age groups from children starting a
new instrument to 60+.
How often do I need to take lessons?
Lessons can be taken as frequently or infrequently as you want, I find
for the greatest improvements one lesson a week is ideal, fortnightly
is ok. I recommend that students try to get a least two lessons /
month to maintain interest.
What type of music do you teach?
I teach many styles and techniques. Lessons are tailored to the
individual student. I use various media including my own syllabus
For beginners I generally start with
basic concepts including Drum Kit Physics, Technique, Basic Music
Theory, Metre Types (¼ note, 8th note and 16th note beats/fills)
Musical Styles/Genres and some rudiments. This leads on to playing
along to tunes and understanding basic song concepts.
My Intermediate and advanced students
will begin to choose the aspects they wish to learn, these may
include, Advanced Techniques (French Timpani Grip, Traditional Grip, Moeller technique) Advanced
Rudiments, new time signatures, Independence studies, Study of
specific musical genres (i.e. Rock, Drum and Bass, Funk, Jazz, Hip
Hop etc) Reading full drum and studio scores, Click track
and timing work, Double bass drumming etc.
What facilities do you have?
My home studio is equipped with an acoustic kit triggered through a
Roland V-Drums system. I find the facilities offered by the
V-Drums vastly improves student learning, and they are ideal for
changing sounds for different genres and have built in teaching
facilities.
How many students do you have?
I currently have 33 students ranging from 9 to 60+
Do I need to sit any exams?
No, I can work to Guildhall or Rock School guidelines, however, examination
must be arranged with a local centre.
What equipment must I own to play?
You don’t need to bring any equipment with you, however I recommend
students purchase a pair of sticks and a practice pad. Ideally
students wishing to gain the greatest improvement from lessons should
own a drum kit (or practice kit) to practice the new ideas and concepts.
What does it cost to learn?
Lessons are £20 for an Hour or £12 for half
an hour. 24 hours notice is requested to cancel lessons.
