THANKS

The inspiration and encouragement to produce a website was given to me by the kind members of Rootschat.com, especially the ‘NOF Club’. Rootschat is a world wide community. It is a message board forum where people are willing to help each other search for elusive relatives, break down brick walls, have a laugh or joke with (or a cry), and generally support each other. The Rootschat community is like a large family in itself, click the link above to experience Rootschat for yourself.

I would also like to say thanks to all my family who have provided information, photo’s and interest in my research. You have all helped encourage me to continue with my searching.

If you have any stories, photo’s or information that you would let me publish on this site, please get in touch with me.

Things I want to investigate further

1) A Famous Ancestor? - Now Disproved

A family story is that one of my MARK ancestors was the Mayor of Manchester. I have found a Sir John Mark, who was Mayor of Manchester from 1889 - 1891. I am in contact with Manchester Central Library and they have very kindly sent me some information about John Mark. Sadly, it does not appear that the Mayor of Manchester is one of my ancestors, I can find no link between his family line and mine but I will continue to look and, maybe, as I trace back further a link may appear.

I can confirm there was a Mayor of Manchester called Sir John Mark, sadly he is not one of my ancestors. From the information I have been supplied with and also found online, we are from two different branches. I have not traced both branches back too far but can confirm no link at present. Who knows if I can go further back, there may be some sort of connection.

I’m not bothered by not having a famous ancestor, it’s as much fun to disprove a theory as it is to prove it.

2) A Musical Connection

Whenever a certain pop band was on the TV during the early 1970’s my Dad always said that one member of the band was my second cousin. I’m still trying to find that connection.

3) The Elusive HILL Family

My Great Great Grandparents, Thomas & Mary HILL, and their family, are missing from both the 1881 and 1891 UK Census’. I think this was because Thomas was in the Army and was posted overseas. I have managed to trace three children born in Barbados, Ireland and Jersey that are possibly theirs and am now looking to obtain any service records or information about Thomas to try and take his line further back.
