I was born in Northampton General Hospital in 1965. Although my home town was Newport Pagnell, in Buckinghamshire, the hospital at Northampton was the nearest one for Mum to deliver in, despite there being a maternity unit in Newport Pagnell and I guess this may cause a few problems for future family hunters.

At a young age I was regularly in and out of hospital because I suffered from Haemolytic Anaemia (a blood disorder of new born babies) and jaundice. My parents were never told the reasons for this but researching it later, it appears to be because Mum possibly had Rh- blood and I had Rh+ blood.

The picture above was taken just after one stay when I was about 18 months’ old, I had been allowed out of hospital a day earlier as it was my Aunt’s wedding. Until I was 10 years’ old, I had to undergo regular monthly blood tests (but our lovely family doctor always gave me an envelope of smarties every time).

About once or twice a month Mum was told to give me a glass of Mackesons Irish Stout (on Doctors’ advice to help boost my Iron count). I also had to eat lots of green vegetables and liver (yuk).

Happily that is all long behind me now, and I have been married, divorced, and have no future plans to marry again (been there, done that, etc.). I do have two wonderful grown-up children from my marriage, my daughter is an independent confident girl who now works for a national internet based company for estate agents. My son doesn’t really know what he wants to do with his life yet but he is working and I'm sure he’ll make his mind up eventually.

I currently work for a local accountancy practice after being made redundant. In November 2005, I became a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, after four years’ studying - I am very proud of this achievement and hope to study further (when time & finances allow).
