ANNE
WHEELER writes:
I
GREW UP on Wirral and was educated at West Kirby Grammar School for
Girls. I graduated in 1988 with a BA (Hons) in History and Education
from Roehampton Institute, University of Surrey. I went on to study
Heritage Management at the Ironbridge Institute and gained a Masters
Degree in 1991. I also have a Postgraduate Diploma in Museums Studies
from the University of Leicester, 1995.
My Museum career started soon after graduation when I took on the role
of part-time Housekeeper’s Assistant at Speke Hall (National Trust) in
Liverpool (1988-1989). While studying for my Masters, I undertook a
placement at the Museum of Childhood at Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire and
then, after completing the course, I worked for a few months as a
volunteer costumed interpreter and inventory assistant at Blists Hill,
part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.
This led to my first professional full time appointment
as Field Officer within the Social History Department at Birmingham
Museums and Art Gallery (1991-94). My role involved managing and
developing the City Sound Archive (an important collection of oral
history recordings), curating temporary exhibitions, producing three
publications (including an Education Pack), and giving talks and
presentations.
In 1994 I was appointed Keeper of Social History for St Albans Museums,
a position I held until 2002. Here, I curated many temporary
exhibitions, produced two more publications, gave numerous talks and
presentations and worked with many local groups and individuals.
Since moving to Nantwich, I have worked with Englesea Brook Museum of
Primitive Methodism to help the Museum achieve accredited status
(awarded April 2008) and have also undertaken further training in
teaching which I think will prove most useful.
I am very
much looking forward to taking over as the new Curator in October.

to a new level achievement." |
