THE CURATOR

ANNE WHEELER, BA MSocSc PGDip, took over as Curator in October 2008, succeeding Sue Pritchard, who had held the post for 27 years.

She graduated in 1988 with a BA (hons) in History and Education from Roehampton Institute, University of Surrey. She went on to study Heritage Management at the Ironbridge Institute and gained a Masters Degree in 1991. She also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Museums Studies from the University of Leicester, 1995.

Her Museum career began as part-time Housekeeper’s Assistant at Speke Hall (National Trust) in Liverpool (1988-1989). A placement at the Museum of Childhood at Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire was followed by a few months work as a volunteer costumed interpreter and inventory assistant at Blists Hill, part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust.

Her first professional full time appointment was as Field Officer within the Social History Department at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery (1991-94).

From 1994 to 2002, she was Keeper of Social History for St Albans Museums.

After moving to Nantwich, she worked with Englesea Brook Museum of Primitive Methodism, helping the Museum achieve accredited status in 2008.

COMMUNITY LEARNING OFFICER

ALLISON KIRK, BA MA, is in the second of her three years with us.

She gained a BA (hons) degree in history at York University and an M.A. degree in Museum Studies at Manchester University.
Before coming to Nantwich Museum, Allison had done some very impressive projects around Manchester - at the Whitworth Art Gallery and the Museum of Science and Industry.

Her post is being financed by a £80,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to produce a specially-tailored programme of activities for children of all ages, families, newcomers, local history enthusiasts and older residents in the locality.

lIF you would like to be considered as a volunteer to work with the Community Learning Officer, please contact the Curator.
