An artist's view of human relationships

THE works of the late Dorothy Bradford will be on display in the Millennium Gallery until August 2. Sadly Dorothy died days before this, her last, exhibition opened. (See this page).

In the notes to her exhibition, she wrote: "My especial concern is with the relationships of human beings one to another and their activities and environment - seeking out the shapes, colours, forms, rhythms, images, etc., which refer to the vital truths and laws underlying these complexities.

"I find a particular parallel with music and painting. A group of musicians playing together are individuals with their own complex life and experiences but they are also members of a unit concerned with the work of the composer, and within this unit there are the constantly changing inter-relations one to another.

"These are revealed visually, as their movements and stretchings and endeavours merge and contrast, and aurally as the structure of sound is built up so that the themes and ideas are stated, taken up, bandied about, opposed, modified, resolved. I endeavour to recreate something of this in colours that SING."

l A Photo Gallery of the launch of the exhibition, with tributes to Dorothy, appear on this page.

l A second Photo Gallery, about a Service of Thanksgiving for Dorothy's life, appears here.

Ten Plus Textiles

IF you missed the exhibition, "Ten Plus Textiles" at the Museum, or would like to see more of the work of the artists, their second exhibition this year is at Little Moreton Hall from September 24 to 28. They will also be giving demonstrations of their techniques.

 The next exhibition

Scary Monsters / Super Creeps, August 9 to September 20

RENOWNED artist Reuben Amarna presents more examples of his special effects work, showing props and creatures from various films. Some you know - such as from Star Wars and Doctor Who - and others you have yet to meet. The last time Reuben exhibited at the Museum, he dressed in one of his costumes and went to The Square to scare the people there. There's no sofa in the Millennium Gallery to hide behind, but come in any way and be scared. Be very scared!

There will be a special opening event on Saturday, August 9. Come and meet some of our scary monster friends in The Square and have your photo taken in the museum from 2pm.

There will be a series of workshops during August exploring the monster theme. Details on the Museum website as well as on posters in and around the Museum.

After that
