The Chamonix Valley is situated in the Haute Savioe Region of SE France at the western end of the European Alps near to the Swiss and Italian borders.  It is probably the most easily accessed alpine resort, from the UK being less than an  hours drive from Geneva Airport and as little as 8 hours (legal!) driving from the Calais (580 miles).
