Apr 27 - Buxton have moved quickly to rearrange their challenge against Belle Vue and it will now take place next Sunday (May 4th)

Apr 27 - Buxton's meeting with Belle Vue has fallen foul (or should that be fowl) of the weather. With persistant rain falling all morning, the descision has been made to postpone the fixture and it is hoped that a date can be sorted to run the meeting later in the year.

Apr 27 - At today's opening home meeting of the season, a new initiative for the Buxton supporters (and all speedway fans in general) to give assistance to the Hitmen will be launched. The group will raise funds that will be paid directly to the riders and it is will work by supporters making a monthly donation by Standing Order and this will then be split evenly to the whole team. Please go to the Sponsors page and click on 'Buxton Hitmen Riders Support' for more details.

Apr 20 - Belle Vue will have some familiar faces in their team to face the Hitmen on Sunday. Jon Bethell and Scott James return and line up with Byron Bekker, Ben Hopwood, Gareth Isherwood, Guy Kendrew and Scott Richardson in a strong team that will be more than a test for the home riders.

Apr 15 - Buxton's first home meeting will be against the Belle Vue Colts in a Conference Challenge on April 27th.

Apr 10 - Press & Practice is confirmed as April 20th with the same plan as for the original date. Of course, this is weather permitting.

Apr 6 - Buxton have been forced to cancel their Press & Practice due to the snow that has hit the area. The plan now is to hold it on April 20th with Wimbledon visiting later in the year.
The Dons were unable to assemble the team that they wanted to because of clashes with other fixtures so it was decided that they would come later in the season.

Mar 31 - Buxton hold their Press & Practice this coming Sunday (6th). The riders are expected to be there from 1pm with the photo-call starting at approx 1.30pm. Weather permitting the boys will take to the track afterwards. A message will be posted on here if there is a late change to these plans.

Mar 27 - The 'draw' has been made for this year's qualifiers for the British Under 21 final and the two Buxton riders involved, Jack Roberts and Ben Taylor, face the tough trip to Plymouth in their quest to make it through. Only the top two from the meeting will automatically go through with the riders who finish in 3rd to 6th places on the night racing-off for the final qualifying spot.

Mar 21 - With riders like Bethell, James and Starke moving elsewhere, Buxton needed some new faces. To add to John Branney, the Hitmen have signed Adam McKinna for 2008. Like his fellow newcomer, McKinna will be racing in both Premier and Conference Leagues this year and with his grading he comes in as a second string to the Buxton line-up.

Mar 17 - Both Jack Roberts and Ben Taylor will be back with the Hitmen in 2008. The two 17-year-olds have their sights on Premier League action and a run of good scores for Buxton will no doubt catch the eyes of promotors from the higher league.

Mar 10 - The opening fixture for 2008 will be a Conference Challenge against the Wimbledon Dons. In a change from the previous two seasons as there is no Dream Team tour, the Dons are planning to visit on April 20th. Last year they had hoped to race against the Hitmen in June but the weather put paid to that meeting.

Mar 9 - Another rider returning to be Buxton colours for 2008 is Lewis Dallaway. Despite an offer from another club, Lewis has shown a large degree of loyalty to the Hitmen and has been rewarded with a team place. It will be Lewis's third season with Buxton and the 22-year-old knows what is expected of him this year.

Feb 29 - Danny Hodgson has been the second rider to be confirmed as a member of the 2008 Hitmen. Danny missed a large part of last year with a hand injury but came on well at the end of the season. Thanks to sponsorship from J&S Dodd in Poole plus some of his savings, Danny has invested in new equipment and is fit and ready for the season ahead.

Feb 25 - Buxton have been rocked by the shocking news that young New Zealander Andrew Tree has passed away in his sleep on Sunday night. The 19-year-old has agreed to ride for the Hitmen this year and was in the final stages of preparation to come over to the UK.
Buxton’s Promoter Jayne Moss said “In all the correspondence we have had with Andrew, he always sounded so enthusiastic and excited about coming to the UK. On Sunday he told us he was just waiting confirmation of his Visa and that he would be with us at the end of March. It’s hard to take in just what’s happened”.
Everyone connected with Buxton Speedway send their deepest condolences to Andrew’s family and friends at this time.

Feb 14 - The first rider for the 2008 Buxton Hitmen has been announced as John Branney. Brother of former Hitman Craig, John has plenty of experience at Conference League level as well as some at Premier League level and will be riding in both leagues this year as he also rides for the Workington Comets.

Feb 2 - Details of the pre-season 'do' are that it will follow the usual format of the 2008 Buxton team being announced with as many riders present as possible. Any other news from the promotion will also be released and then there will be a buffet (always excellent) followed by a relaxed quiz with a raffle thrown in for good measure. All this takes place on Saturday February 23rd with an entry cost of £5. Please note that there is a change in venue from the past couple with this one being at Buxton Football Club - click HERE for the direction to the ground (Courtesy of Buxton FC)

Jan 30 - With regards to the new rule that will allow each team to track a new Commonwealth rider, the Buxton promotion would like to hear from anyone who may be able to help with accommodation for the rider. If you can help please contact us and we will put you in touch with the promotion.

On the team front, two more of the 2007 Hitmen have moved elsewhere. Scott James is likely to be riding for the Redcar Cubs (last year called the Cleveland Bays) while Jon Bethell has signed for the Scunthorpe Saints (the Conference team to the Premier League Scorpions).

Jan 28 - 8 teams will contest the 2008 Conference League but there is a late decision on whether near-neighbours Stoke will be added to the list. There are 4 teams in the Conference Trophy - Sittingbourne (who will be racing at Arena Essex), Buxton, Weymouth and Plymouth. All teams will be entered into the Knockout Cup and the major finals are as follows - 4 Team Tournament at Plymouth, Pairs at Weymouth and the Conference League Riders Championship at Rye House.

There has been a change to the controversial Gradings system with the 2007 averages playing a greater part. The changes are
Under 20 - 2007 average minus 1 point
20-25 - 2007 average
25-30 - 2007 average plus 1 point
30+ - 2007 average plus 2pts.

Each of the Conference League teams will be allowed to sign one Commonwealth rider (Australian, New Zealander or Canadian) who will be over here on a working visa and this will be strictly controlled as in there will be a maximum of 8 riders only allowed. If a team chooses not to take up their option, one of the others can use it.

Jan 25 - News from the CL Conference will shortly be announced and we are getting ready for some announcement on the riders who will race for the Hitmen in the very near future.

Jan 1 - This is the latest version of the Buxton Hitmen website. Each year we revamp it's appearance and we hope you like this year's effort.

A couple of things carried over from last year - the top awards at the Presentation Evening went to Scott James (Top Points Scorer), Ben Taylor (Top Bonus Points), Paul Starke (Buxton Gold Cup) & Lewis Dallaway (Ken Moss Memorial Trophy). News also came through that Paul Starke would not be returning to the Buxton team as he has signed for Plymouth. According to an article in the Ledbury Reporter Paul says 'It is a step up for me because they are a bigger and better team and they pay more.'
