AEC Reliance (ex Glenton Tours)
Ex-Glenton Tours AEC Reliance (LYH 148P), entered by Coopers Tours, won the M. Cuthbertson Memorial Trophy and the Concours Trophy.

General view of Rally site
A general view of the Rally site. A good selection of buses, old and new, were on display.

General view with vintage cars

Another general view shows a small selection of the cars that had been entered. In the background are more buses somewhat dwarfed by the twin cooling towers.

The following pictures were kindly submitted by Russell Wild.

Low floor Volvo
The new Volvo low-floor bus currently being tested by various operators. We have one here in Sheffield being run by First Mainline (usually on the 52 Woodhouse route), but the one in the picture is from First Manchester. It has absolutely no steps inside, and the engine is rotated onto its side in the rear far-side corner of the bus (looks rather like a toilet cubicle).

Alexander bodied Ailsa
This Alexander bodied Ailsa is owned and rallied by the 388 Group. The group actually own 4 of these distinctive Ailsas including former South Yorkshire PTE 388 which is undergoing extension restoration at the Sheffield Bus Museum. The bus shown here was originally registered GCN 2N. It was new to Tyne and Wear PTE and is the second oldest surviving chassis (No. 6).

Line-up of vehicles

One of the main line up of vehicles. On the extreme left is the brand new Volvo mentioned above. The other vehicles represent the fleets of West Riding, Green Line, East Yorkshire, Leicester, Glentons Tours, London Transport, Midland General, Northern Bus and Aston Express. Quite a variety!

Bristol VR (Northern Bus)

This is an ECW bodied Bristol VR which operated for Northern Bus. The vehicle's name, "Dill", is just visible on the front below the destination blinds.

London Transport RTS

A London Transport RT bus. This was the last of its class (as opposed to the longer RTL) in service in London and has since been bought and restored (the pictures on the side show that it was in quite a mess when they received it).

Two AEC half cabs

A pair of AECs. On the left is an East Yorkshire Motor Services 1956 AEC Regent V with the distinctive 'Beverley Bar' bodywork built by Willowbrook. The upper deck contours were especially built to allow the double-deck to pass through the historic bar in Beverley. On the left is a 1965 East Lancs bodied AEC Renown which was new to Leicester City Transport.

Assorted TM Travel buses

A line up of various TM Travel vehicles, of various ages: two MCW Metrobus, two Olympians, and is the chopped off one a Pointer?

Engineering vehicles

Two former South Yorkshire engineering vehicles. The one nearest the camera is OWJ 353A which started life as 475 HDT a 1962 Roe double-deck bodied PD3/4. Converted to a single-deck engineering vehicle in 1979, it was acquired for preservation in 1994 and superbly restored. The other vehicle is sister OWJ 354A which started life as similar 476 HDT and was also converted into a gritter vehicle in 1979. Purchased for preservation in 1999 and preserved in 'as withdrawn' condition.

AEC Regent

Sheffield Transport 874 AEC Regent with Alexander bodywork, pictured on the lower deck of Tinsley viaduct (the upper deck is the M1 motorway).

Two South Yorkshire buses

Two buses from South Yorkshire. The single-deck vehicle is Doncaster 55, a 1968 Leyland Royal Tiger Cub RTC1/2 with Roe bodywork, in the, er, distinctive 1970s livery of Doncaster Transport. The double-deck vehicle is a ex-Sheffield 257, a 1972 Daimler Fleetline with Alexander bodywork.
