A primary source of historical information is the humble newspaper and Copeland and its people have been particularly well served in this respect

The Record Office at Whitehaven has micro-filmed copies of some of these papers, particularly the Whitehaven papers, and there is also a Name and Subject card index for the Cumberland Pacquet newspaper for the years prior to about 1850.

Barrow Record Office has microfilmed copies of the Millom newspapers
