The Parish Council is obliged to make enquiries about this provision of allotments if there are six or more requests received from villagers.
(There would be a small annual charge for any allotments made available)

A letter received by The Clerk to Newnham Parish Council,

Further to our telephone conversation today I confirm that I am a recently appointed Development Officer at DDH and have been tasked with investigating the options of new build development potential for all the land DDH currently owns.  To do this I will look at various options:

1.                   Site has definite development potential

2.                   Site definitely has no development potential and why

3.                   Potential Environmental Improvement site and why (i.e. park, play area, car parking, etc)

4.                   Sites which do not fall into any category, for example has development potential but there are other issues and views to be considered; housing need, views of Parish Council and DDC, local residents views

Regarding the above site, we note that the Parish Council have had requests from local residents to use this land for allotments and that the Parish Council must properly investigate this.  Unfortunately at this time I can’t give you a definitive view, but would assure you that I will keep you informed of progress on the options work which is targeted to be completed by March 2010.  When I visit Newnham to assess the site will let you know so that you or another Parish Councillor can attend.
