Lewes planeTree Project

This is an idea which came from the Whole World in His Hands project.

Every time you travel by plane you cause pollution, tonnes of carbon dioxide that add to global warming and climate change. A long haul flight to Australia generates 3.75 tonnes of C02 per person.  Even a short flight to Paris makes 0.13 tonnes.  This is what you need to do to be a carbon neutral flier.

Once a year we ask you to make a calculation based on the number of miles you have flown, including business as well as leisure.  We can convert these miles into the number of trees needed to deal with the atmospheric damage you have caused.

Then you pay for the total number of trees at so much per tree.  The Australia flight would require 5 trees, and Paris 1.

The trees will be planted in a special project in the West African country of Burkina Faso. There, the aim is to develop efficient natural resource management in ten villages and address the long term needs of the villagers.

Trees in this project will cost £10.00 each.

The use of the money will be supervised by the charity called Tree Aid whose work is supported by many church groups and has been one of the Christmas charities supported by the Independent newspaper.
