HISTORY

This is a brand new apartment in a top quality conversion of one of Glasgow's most impressive Art Deco buildings. Originally built as The Beresford Hotel in 1938, at ten storeys high it was the tallest building erected in Glasgow between the wars and was described as Glasgow's first skyscraper. The hotel was first used for visitors to the Empire Exhibition, and then became a favourite rendezvous for American servicemen during the Second World War.

After the war, the building became an office block and later was acquired by the University of Strathclyde for student accommodation. Ex-students may remember it as Baird Hall - we're pleased to report the apartments bear no resemblance to the student rooms you stayed in! Now it has finally been restored to its former glory with painstaking restoration of the existing façade and the inclusion of a stylish foyer evoking memories of the elegant style of the thirties.

LOCATION [ street map ]

The Beresford is ideally situated for you to take advantage of the best that Glasgow has to offer.

Located at the western end of the famous Sauchiehall Street, you are close to the West End while being in the heart of the City Centre. You only need to walk out of the front door, turn right and a fifteen minute walk will put you in the West End with its magnificent architecture, laid-back cafes and restaurants and cultural landmarks such as the newly-restored Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and the Transport Museum.

Further on is Byres Road, famous for its unique shops, restaurants and bars. The striking Victorian buildings of Glasgow University are here, housing the Hunterian Museum, Art Gallery and the Mackintosh House.

Glasgow old and new

Turn left out of the Beresford and you are in the heart of retail therapy land. Sauchiehall Street has all the familiar High Street stores you could want. At the top of the street, marking its junction with Buchanan Street, is Buchanan Galleries shopping centre with yet more shops. Continue along Buchanan Street itself and you'll find some of the most stylish shops in the city. Don't forget to visit Princes Square, a small but beautiful shopping arcade on three floors, stuffed with designer shops and good quality restaurants and bars.

Just a couple of minutes walk from the Beresford is the Kings Theatre, and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is next to Buchanan Galleries, while the massive multi-screen Cineworld is close to Buchanan Street bus station.

Public Transport
The Beresford is a fifteen minute walk from Glasgow Central Railway Station, five minutes from Charing Cross Station and ten minutes from Buchanan Street Bus Station, and there are always taxis available.

The nearest subway station is Cowcaddens, although there is a quite a hill to climb, so beware if you have heavy bags. Alternatively, we recommend either St George's Cross or Buchanan Street Station - a slightly longer walk from either, but far flatter. For subway information, click here,

Car Parks
There is no parking on site, but the Charing Cross 24 hour multi-storey car park is in nearby Elmbank Crescent.
