Monart Glass Vase
Monart Glass was made by a family of Spanish glass blowers named Ysart in Perth Scotland, between 1924-1961, and sold through the company of John Moncrieff, also of Perth. Such was the quality of the work that department stores like Liberty's sold it. It was also sold in the USA, Canada and South Africa. The piece offered for sale here is undated but almost certainly post-war because of the pale colouring. The trumpet shape is classic Monart and the flecks of aventurine in the glass are also typical of the production technique. It is not uncommon for Monart pieces to sell for more than £1000 and even the smaller vases - 7 inches or so tall - will command prices of over £200. Monart is very collectable and still increasing in value as serious collectors and museums take greater interest in it. This particular piece is 12 inches tall with a diameter at the top of almost 6 inches. It is a perfect example of hand made glass, unchipped and without the annealing cracks occasionally found in Monart specimens. No label but a perfect pontil.

Silver Topped Oil and Vinegar Bottles
Beautiful and useful, these green and clear bottles are hand-blown and topped with silver caps/spouts and cork stoppers. The silver is continental. It bears the name S&M Benzen and marks 830S. The style of two conjoined bottles was popularised in the latter part of the 19th and early part of the 20th century. A British hallmarked equivalent sells for over £400. The cork on one stopper has been replaced but otherwise in perfect condition.

Silver and Enamel Dressing Table Set
Hallmarked Birmingham 1931, and with a maker's mark 'AC', this pretty five-piece dressing table set is in excellent condition with very slight wear to the corner of one of the smaller brushes only and very slight mottling to the mirror, a common enough occurrence in mirrors of this age and not detracting at all from the quality of the pieces. The back of each item is patterned to produce radiating waves of the most translucent pale green colouring. The bristles are clean and tight. An item that would grace any bride's dressing table.

Glasgow - A Sketch Book
By John Nisbet. Published by Adam and Charles Black, London, 1915.
No text other than titles of drawings - 15 in all, including George Square, Buchanan Street, The University and Kelvin Bridge. The book is 9" by >6". The covers are only in fair condition, the spine having almost disintegrated. There is foxing to the frontpiece and very minor foxing to one or two of the drawings but, on the whole, the plates are in good condition. This is a very rare book.

Translated and edited with additions by George C Chisholm. Published by Blackie & Son, Old Bailey, London, 1889. 10" by 13" approx. With 25 full page pictures and many other pictures in the text. Covers deep red cloth covered card, heavily embossed on front and spine with pictures and text. Worn to corners and damage to top part of spine but the book, on the whole, is firm and sound, all the pages being secure and tight. Some foxing here and there. Once again, a rare book.
