SHERIFF HUTTON          1    2    HEMINGBROUGH UTD

Hemingbrough playing like a team who believe in themselves comfortably maintained their 100% record and in doing so inflicted the first defeat of the season on their hosts.

The game was just five minutes old when the in-form Adrian Wood latched onto a through ball and rifled the ball past the keeper from 14 yards out.. With Young, Winter, Singh and Wood easily controlling the mid-field they were creating opportunities to support Smith and Welford on their forward forays and the only surprise was that they failed to add to their single strike before the interval.

Within two minutes of the re-start Sheriff Hutton should have been on level terms, having been given the benefit of an off-side decision they were then denied only by the bravery of keeper Brown saving at the feet of the home striker. However the lead was extended within three minutes following a foul on Smith, from the resultant free-kick which was some 35 yds out, Dave “Power” Young produced a potent shot which clattered the back of the net.

The hosts lifted their game but found the Brough defence solid and in particular Tomlinson showing a commanding and controlled aggressive dimension to his game. With less than ten minutes to go the Crown Inn Man of the Match Dave Young almost repeated his earlier feat but Hemingbrough’s “Achilles Heel” surfaced in the final minute as they conceded a goal from a corner kick which collected two deflections on it’s way into the net.

HEMINGBROUGH RES      0      3     HAMILTON PANTHERS RES

Playing into a strong headwind, Hemingbrough set about their opening league fixture against one of the better teams in the league with a high level of concentration and energy. They shut out the opposition in the first half with an impressive defensive display led by their inspirational skipper Aaron Kyle, and played some attractive football when the ball was on the deck,. though chances at either end were down to an absolute premium.

The deadlock was eventually broke on 62mins with the visitors scrambling the ball over the line from a set piece, and from this they added two further goals as Herningbrough visible tired after their first half endeavours. In a last ditch effort to salvage something from the game Hemingbrough threw on Lee Young and his namesake Mike but to no avail.
