BRIDLINGTON SC    3     2   HEMINGBROUGH UTD

Hemingbrough came up a against a very experienced arid organised outfit on the East Coast and saw their hopes of "European glory fall at the first hurdle as they crashed out of the East Riding Junior Country Cup.

With a little more luck Hemingbrough could have been two goals up within ten minutes as first a Richard Ireland shot was cleared off the line by a defender and then within two minutes a Danny Young effort was saved by the home keeper.

However on 20 mins the Brough's weakness at clearing corners cost them yet again and the unmarked sea-skiers striker prodded the ball home with ease.
Smith and Ireland continued to hound the home defence and with just two minutes remaining their persistence were reward as a mistake by a home defender presented a chance for Ireland, which he duly tucked away.

On 55 minutes Bridlington restored their lead but Brough levelled again courtesy of another special Dave Young free kick. As the game progressed it was Hemingbrough that were looking the better side and it was somewhat against the run of play that the Brid side took the lead for a third and what proved to be a decisive time. The referee failed to notice that the ball was clearly over the side line and it allowed their wideman to cross the ball which .was easily headed home. In the dying minutes Young, Smith and Bennett all went close but Bridlington somehow managed to cling on to their slender lead.

Dale Shipley and Richard Singh were deservedly shared the Crown Inn Man of the Match award.

EAST RIDING COUNTRY QUALIFYING CUP
HEMINGBROUG.H RES   1     0     NORTH BURTON

Back in April. when the summer was just about beginning and the football season was at it's end, Hemingbrough Res beat North Burton in the East Riding Country Qualifying Cup Final and fate been what it is. managed to pair the same teams together again, but this time at the Round One stage.

Both teams therefore had a point to prove and the early exchanges were cautious.

As the game settled both teams began to find their attacking prowess and only the woodwork at both ends of the pitch denied any goals. A free lick was awarded, somewhat harshly, for an aBeged back-pass, just 10 yds from the goal, but North Burton managed to blast the ball just about as many yards wide.

The deadlock was eventually broken just before the break, the sprightly Lee Young sprang the visitors off-side trap and coolly lobbed the keeper from 25yds to ease the home team nerves.

Chances were at a premium in the second half and as the game entered the final minutes North Burton threw everything and everyone forward in pursuit of the equaliser. The referee wanted to play his part in the tense finish, and contentiously awarded yet another free kick to North Burton and again inside the area, on this occasion it was deemed the keeper held the ball for more than six seconds, never! With all 22 players positioned in the Hemingbrough penalty area the free kick ricocheted around like a pinball but eventually was collected by Jackson who knocked the bail to safety and the final whistle.

JOHN SMITHS CUP - ROUND TWO
Sunday 10th October 2004

WIGGINGTON GRASSHOPPERS    3      1       HEMINGBROUGH

Despite Hemingbrough putting in one of their best performances of the season they still went out of the John Smiths Cup at the hands of Division One side Wiggington.

A well worked goal after 15 minutes put the home side in front but before the break the Smith-Teale combination gave Player/Manager Matty Williams the opportunity to level from 18 yds out and he made no mistake.

Wiggington were proving to be a classy side but Hemingbrough were battling hard and deserved to be still in the game and it took a lucky deflection to restore the home sides lead. In the dying minutes Wiggington added a further goal to seal victory. Hemingbrough now need to take this performance and commitment over to the league fixtures. Steve Harrison and Jon Teale collected the Man of the Match accolades.

This week-end all three sides return to league duty with the First team, currently lying third in the table ( and games in hand) travel to local rivals Cawood while the Reserves entertain their counterparts from Tockwith who are currently heading the Reserve League. On Sunday, Hemingbrough travel to Acomb SC.
