Hemingbrough
were quickly into their stride for their first competitive match
of the season and quickly took control of the early exchanges.
The first goal
came on the 20 minute mark when Dave Young unleashed a 28 yard free
kick just inside the post. Such was the control at this stage that
the lead was doubled within lust five minutes when Welshman Richard
Ireland drilled home from the edge of the box.
The confident mood then
changed to a mood of complacency and this allowed the home side
back into the game, first a quickly taken throw-in created a break
away for Rawcliffe’s Mall Fern to reduce the arrears and within
two minutes a marauding run through the middle of the Brough defence
presented the home striker Geoff Hunter an easy strike past the
isolated Brown to level the scores at 2-2 at the half-time break.
A few choice words at
the interval instilled some discipline back into Hemingbrough’s
game and they were rewarded on 57 mins when Mark Livsey showing
a turn of pace which surprised everyone met a cross from the right.
On 71 minutes the lead
was extended further When Richard Singh, the close season signing
from Premier side Kartiers (undisclosed fee) showed his quality
and class by creating time and space before feeding the Crown Inn
Man of the Match Richard Ireland who finished from close range.
On Sunday Hemingbrough
playing away at New Earswick (Burnholme) had to settle for a point
from a goalless draw.
This Saturday is the First Round of the York League Cup and both
sides have tricky ties. With a 1-3Opm KO the First team entertain
last season’s promoted sides Strensall. With a 3-3Opm KO the
Reserves play their first game of the season against Reserve a side
Malton Bacon Factory. On Sunday Hemingbrough are at home to Haxby
Lions in a league encounter.
