HEMINGBROUGH    5    4  STRENSALL

HEMINGBROUGH eventually came out worth estra time winners of this hard fought York Junior League Cup tie conscious of giving away silly goals and counting the number of injuries to their squad.

They were two up within a matter of ten minutes. Danny Smith's flick on left Craig Welford clear and the latter doubled the lead within minutes with a sweetly hit shot from the edge of the box.

Two defensive blunders allowed the visitors back into the game but a confident and fit side rode the storm and restored their lead before the break. Crown Inn man of the match Stewart Winters, who totally controlled the mid-field, slotted a through ball for Welford who finished in sublime style to complete a first half hat-trick.

The second half will be remembered mostly for the two blatant penalties the referee denied Hemingbrough before Strensall equalisedwhen Ireland blocked a shot, only to seee the ball spin into the corner of the net.

Smith lobbed the keeper early into extra time and after Strensall drew level, Brough regained the lead for the fourth time with six minutes left thanks to a Danny Young looping header.

They now face another Division 2 side in Poppleton, last year's runners-up and pre-season cup favourites.

Hemingbrough Reserves     1     4    Malton Bacon Factory

THIS was always going to be a difficult Reserve Cup tie against a side two divisions higher who had first team players using the opportunity for practice.

But Brough battled gamely and had the better of the early exchanges with new sigings Talintire, Siddiquee and Wood all impressing. The visitors took the lead when Brough's stand-in-keeper bundled over a forward and doubled it from a set piece within minutes.

Hemingbrough reduced the arrears before the break when the tireless Siddiquee won a penalty which was clinically converted by Tom Caudwell.

But they conceded two further goals as the Bacon Boys' experience showed.

Hemingbrough    1     3    Haxby Lions

THE LIONS came from a goal down to take maximum points from this John Smith's Sunday League encounter. Harry Jackson's precise through ball to Matty Williams enabled the Brough player/manager to open the scoring but poor defending proved costly.
