HEMINGBROUGH     2       1     TADCASTER ALBION

Hemingbrough continued their excellent early season form with a comfortable victory over a young and lively Tadcaster Albion and moved into third place in the league table.

The game was just ten minutes old when a through ball from Young created uncertainty in the Taddy defence with both the keeper and the defender unsure of what to do, and while they were deciding, the ever alert Adrian Wood sneaked in and collected the ball before stroking it into the back of the net.

Good flowing football was demonstrated by both sides though the visitors rarely troubled home keeper Brown, and on 31 mins Hemingbrough extended their lead when a slick move involving Tomlinson, Singh and Smith created the time and space for Wood to slot home again. Taddy refused to lie down and on 38 mins they reduced the deficit with a quick break, which gave Brown no chance at all.

The second half saw both defences on top and chances at an absolute premium though the clearest opportunity fell to Wood who was only denied an hat-trick when the young Taddy keeper made an excellent diving save to his left.

Danny Young was the Crown Inn Man of the Match

East Riding Sunday Morning Cup

PARK ATHLETIC      3     2    HEM INGBROUGH UTD

Hemingbrough bowed out of the East Riding Cup at the first hurdle but not without putting up some stem resistance and a late rally which almost forced the tie into extra-time.

During the first period Harry Jackson cracked a volley against the bar and Danny Smith forced the home keeper into two top drawer saves and with Crown Inn Man or the Match Nobby Taylor creating constant problems for the hosts on the flanks Hemingbrough were still in the game after a goal-less first half.
Jon Teale and Marc Williams continued to control the midfield early into the second half but an astute substitution by Park Athletic totally changed the game, or, was it due to the fact that some of the Hemingbrough players had been celebrating Tom Jackson’s 21st in Nottingham only a few hours before KO! Whatever the reason, the home side went three up — all from the sub-within twenty minutes but on 83 mins Jon Teale converted a penalty after Smith was brought down in the box and on 88 mins Harry Jackson headed home from a corner to set up a frantic final few minutes but to no avail.

This weekend sees all three teams in action and all three have difficult games. The first team travel to League leaders Sheriff Hutton who, like Hemingbrough, are unbeaten this season while the Reserves play host to Hamilton Panthers who lost only one game all last season, missing out on promotion by just one point. On Sunday, Hemingbrough play their delayed York Sunday FA Cup Tie away at Division One side Blacksmith Arms. KO 10.3Oam.
