7. DOIT LANE FOOTPATH
The photo, of Roydon Church, was taken looking north, from between the first
two stiles
This path starts in Doit Lane, about 200 yards from the A1066 running due east.
Crosses a stile, and carries straight on through grass fields, with nice views
of the Waveney Valley to the right, through another two stiles
into a very pleasant wooded stretch.
[On entering the wood there is a optional path on the right that runs through
ROYDON FEN (see below)]
At the end of the wood you can carry on straight to join up with Tottington
Lane, or turn left up by a field edge. Then through a wooded
stretch alongside a fence , on to a property drive, coming out next to the
Petrol Station in High Road, Roydon.
Turning left up the A1066 200 yards leads you to the "White Hart"
I normally walk this path from the Loke Farm footpath (no 2), crossing the
A1066, and
walking 200 yard east.
NOTE: It now appears that you can avoid the dangerous walk down the A1066 by
going alongside the field hedge and then crossing the A1066
Down a 'discretionary' footpath, then turning left up the Freezen Hill access
road to
Doit Lane. Turn
right there and the path starts about 300 yards down on the left.
ROYDON FEN :
There is a Car park on the bend in Tottington Lane, about 100 yards from the
A1066, with a a Notice Board giving details of the route.
This interesting walk, that, although not clearly marked, runs through
various types of habitat. A bit muddy in parts, and on a wood walkway in
others, is worth taking, a bit wild and a real fen.
I have to admit I got lost twice, probably because I walked the path from the
other end, and eventually ended up joining Tottington
Lane, near to Fair Green, instead of the Car Park I was aiming for.
The walk ,including return along Fen Street, looks about 2 kilometres on the map
