It started in 1988 after an apprenticeship with various leading London gilders and pictureframers. After 5 years in London we moved to Suffolk, about 100 miles North from London.We were able to set up a workshop where we had room for craftspeople with related skills, to work together in an innovative way. Giving the flexability in approach to problems of manufacturing traditional crafts products against sharp deadlines and budgets.
Gilding is a 5000 year old craft that is basically using the same methods and skills throughout the years unchanged, although small improvement have been made. Such as replacing "dogs tooth" burnishers from the real thing to agate stone.
This was especially applauded by the dogs.
Nine design is using the finest quality English goldleaf manufactured by Habberly Meadows from Birmingham, without doubt the standard setting goldbeaters of the world.
