what is kung fu?

The term Kung Fu is from the Cantonese dialect and is generally accepted in the western world as a form of Chinese Martial Art. Kung Fu actually refers not to a single nations fighting systems but a concept of high level skill gained through hard work with many years of patience and practice. One's Kung Fu can therefore equally be relevant to skill at cooking or flower arranging as well as a level of training in martial arts. However, since Kung Fu is generally recognised in this way we will use it throughout this website.

A Master (Sifu) can only be a guide in a students exploration of Kung Fu and ultimately 'the self', he or she can only pass on their knowledge. Only a patient and dedicated student can hope to reach mastery of an art and then pass on and spread the true nature of their particular system that would otherwise eventually be lost or forgotten.
