15 Juniors took part in the Junior training day on the 4th of July which incorporated the Junior Pursuit race.

 

The morning session was run by Dave Woodhead from the RYA and he worked on improving the groups sailing skills.

 

After the lunch time BBQ there was a short revision session on the water allowing all to practice the skills learnt earlier in the day. This became interesting for all as the wind strengthened giving both the children and the rescue boat a challenge !!!.

 

After a short break for refreshments and a theory session on how to depower your sails the juniors headed for the start line.

 

The juniors in their Picos and Toppers held the chasing Lasers off until the last few minutes of the 1 hour pursuit but were finally caught by Andy Hunter, this made it an exciting race and great credit must go to Andy for not giving up the chase.

 

The race was recorded which allowed the group to have parts of their performance analysed by Dave afterwards and some interesting discussions to be had on race tactics.

 

Medals were awarded on the day for the best performer in each age group.

 

Once again the Junior parents were great offering their services in power boats, as boat riggers, cooking lunch for the Juniors and providing encouragement to all.
