CHAIRMANS REPORT 23RD FEBRUARY 2006

This was my first year as the Chairman of our club and it has been both interesting and rewarding.  A spell in hospital and the associated convalescence meant that I was not able to attend club meetings for some time. For those persons who “carried the flag” on my behalf during that time, I would like to say a big “Thank-You”

Our club has been active in many aspects of the hobby this past year. Members have been involved with foundation and intermediate courses at the Newbury venue. We have managed to attract a small number of new members to the club and, on behalf of all club members , I would extend to them a warm welcome. Our contest activities and field days have been to their usual high standard, supported by the usual Spartan members of the club. To these members especially I would like to express special thanks. These Spartans are a small team, but they do so very much.  To the contest operators, can we not make 2006 the year we initiate a contest mentoring scheme, to enable a pool of contest operators to be built up?

Special thanks must go to our hard working Programme Secretary Ron Burgess (G0XGM) who has provided a very good series of evenings, some of which I feel I must mention:-

“A morse evening …with keys and historical facts etc.,”

“Restoration of an ME109”

“Aunt Sally evening…..brilliant”

“various video evening ….with Japanese morse Y service into, D Day maps , Dxpeditions and even the outcome of the TSR2 demise”.

“Talk on the use of PSK31 digital modes etc., by young Peter Goodhall”.

This list is not exhaustive, but gives a sense of the breadth of interest within the club.

On most evenings we have had an attendance figure of approximately 12-15 members, I hope to increase our membership by hook or by crook.

For such a small club, its fundraising activities have been truly superb. The stalwarts Barry, Colin (our own Fred Dibnah), and Eddy have done truly sterling work. To these few and all the other members who turn out and hump and dump for the benefit of the club may I say a very special thanks. It is due to the help from these members,  that the finances of the club look so very healthy.

Mention must also go to Peter Rowsell, G1ULQ who has again allowed us the use of his field for operating, and the continued use of his large barn for storage of club equipment. On behalf of club members may I express our great appreciation.

It has been a great year for the club and the recent Harwell rally has again helped to swell the clubs coffers. Rumours the Barry is hoping to operate /portable from the Cayman Islands is merely hearsay! We have had a lot of fun on field days, and even one of our members managed to contact Peter 1 Island 3Y0X.

To all those members who helped to make 2005 such a success may I again, on behalf of all club member, thank them unreservedly.

              TERRY GREENWOOD G4AYR
