Meeting Notes for 26th January 2006

The meeting saw 16 members present. There were two appologies for absence. Colin Potter was off to peruse the Newbury clubs junk sale. Ray Goff G4FON was off on a business trip to Madrid .

The chairman got the meeting off to a prompt start as there was an extra item to the programme.  An appeal for more help for the forthcoming Harwell rally  was made, and there was immediate reponse from a couple of members, this brought a relieved smile to Barry`s (G4AZN)  face, our hard working rally project manager. The chairman had also brought along a couple of the home made keys from the late G8PX`s estate. These two keys were given away free to club members who appreciated the skill with which they were made.

After a quick chat about audit items, the floor was handed over to Ron Burgess our programme secretary, Ron quickly explained how the DVD was being sorted and that meanwhile he was handing the floor to Phill Hopkins G7GVV who was going to give a talk on “An old 1983 Laptop”.

This was a bit of history and technological progress in its infancy. The item itself was explained in detail and for its age and one of the first of its kind it was amazingly smart in appearance and gosh, what a superb keyboard! Phil`s quip about some guy called “Bill Gates” who wrote the software and “whatever became of him”, brought forth a fair bit of mirth!

Phil`s talk was short and excellent, he even left us all with a question concerning a suspected fault with the power supply. This will be investigated by a couple of our boffins.

The main event for the evening was the DVD of the Kerguelen low power dxpedition.  The DVD was brought along by Terry Vale and was really well received by  club members. Special thanks were extended to Terry and of course Ken Taylor for bringing the dvd and the excellent projector.

This was an excellent meeting and seemed to be enjoyed by one and all.
