Musical Director - Warren Belshaw

Warren Belshaw is a professional musician originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where he spent his youth in an area with a thriving Brass Band movement. By the age of nine he was playing first trombone with the National Youth Brass Band and shortly after this, gained the principal trombone seat with the Ever Ready Band.

During his training at Guildhall School of Music, London, Warren became increasingly involved with arranging and composing. Many of his pieces have been specially commissioned to be recorded and broadcast by the likes of Parc & Dare band, Cory Band and Black Dyke, as well as other pieces for bands appearing on BBC Songs of Praise programmes. City of Birmingham now regularly benifit from his talents.

However, Warren's writing is not limited to Brass Bands alone. Over the years he has been responsible for many original chamber orchestra pieces, the music for an opera-cum-musical running off the West End in London and writing the music for and performing in a comedy brass group on the live final of the BBC's 'Opportunity Knocks'!

Since moving to Birmingham in 1995, Warren has played trombone with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford and with Chris de Burgh on his 1996, 1997 and 1998 summer tours, as well as writing for the BBC and English Chamber Orchestra.

Warren conducted the City of Birmingham Brass Band from January 1997 to December 2002 and after a well earned break, in October 2005 we were delighted to welcome him back to the post.
