PETER OWSTON OF SCARBOROUGH FOUNDER OF LEICESTERSHIRE SOLICITOR BRANCH (1st edition) Scarborough 1740's >>> PETER OWSTON 1730-1772

At one time it was perceived that Peter Owston married twice but a re-examination of the Owston database from the Scarborough Parish Register brought me to the conclusion that Ann Welburn was his only wife. There was another Peter Owston at Scarborough at the time but Welborn Owston is definately the grandson of the above John. It is intersting that this son Welburn was mentioned both in his fathers Will and that of his Owston grandfather. John must have died between the death of his father and that of his grandfather.

I noticed that Peter of Scarborugh left his Will as a Prerog Mar/Apr 1772. This Will was twice registered. I had forgotton that his witnesses include P. Oweston (sic) Attorney at Law, the other Peter Owston in the town. He was a descendant of the Christopher who lived about 1600. There are two administrations for this Will which I think was because it took some time for George to travel up from St Nicholas in Leicester. His brother Thomas also signed this later administration. John the father signed the earlier one as one of the declared administrators. Peter was the son of John Owston of Sherburn 1701-1781 and Eleanor Harpham.

There is a book produced by the Owston Solicitor company in Leicester which includes more details about the descendants of Welborn Owston.
