A thousand years ago York was a major
City in the Viking World. Like the Irish city Dublin, York had it's own rulers, and
at one time the ruler was the same man. Interestingly York or 'Jorvik'
remembers its past at the Jorvik Centre in Coppergate York. The centre has just been
revamped with a £5 million investment and is as popular as ever.
Every February many visitors come to
the city from all over the Viking North of Europe to take part in the Viking Festival.
The event is very popular giving lively reconstructions of parts of Viking life.
