*The Japanese name Eiwakai was derived from the kanji characters
"Ei"meaning Britain and also intellect
and "Wa" meaning Japan and also harmony. Taken together with the kanji "kai" the meaning is
Anglo-Japanese society Its adoption as the society name is intended to evoke the
auspicious combination of these desirable elements in one place.
