My family lived on Malta in the late sixties and early seventies. During this time my father bought a Luzzu for the family to go out on pleasure trips around the islands. This Luzzu was built in 1914 and had a mast and sails.
It was hoped that St. Andrew could be found, but after making enquiries there was no sign of her on the register. We were aware that the number would have been changed over the years, but we knew that there were no original Luzzijiet with a mast still in existence. We would be very interested to know if anyone can prove us wrong if we say St Andrew has been scrapped. It was because we believed this boat to be no more we set about finding a similar boat. A Luzzu called "Bounty" became the one.
"Bounty" (St. Joseph) was no poor substitute. She is a fine example of Maltese boat building and an icon of the Maltese islands.About St Joseph.St Joseph was built in 1964 by Tar-Ratal Marine Crafts, Birzibbuga, Malta. She was a special order to be built wider and flatter than normal to suit the requirements of the original owner, Joseph Gatt.
