ON WINDERMERE

Windermere is the largest of the lakes in the Lake District National Park, which is situated in northwest England between Manchester and the Scottish border.  Lakeland is one of the country's premier tourist
attractions bringing people in from all over the world, so it has made a perfect new home for our Luzzu.
St. Joseph has become a tourist attraction herself, with many people taking photographs each time she goes out on the lake.  On one occasion when we had left the Luzzu moored at a hotel jetty we found an artist painting a picture of her!

In June 2006 St. Joseph was launched into the lake. It was the boat's first taste of fresh water.  There had been some concern as to what effect the lake water would have on the timbers of the old boat, as they had been effectively pickled by the salt in the sea water.  There was real concern that the fresh water would draw the salt out of the wood, thus causing rot to set in.

In June 2006 St Joseph slid into Windermere.

The launch of the Luzzu was covered by the local papers, and from that point on the Maltese boat
on Windermere was famous
!

After months of planning and seemingly endless work we were all proud to see the fruits of our labours, A Luzzu on Windermere!

Off on her maiden voyage to her new home, a boathouse at the western side of the lake.
