Any Charlton related story - On the 31st December 1966 a coach load of Charlton fans left London for our first league game at Carlisle, New Year was seen in at a Barnet Pub and we arrived in Carlisle at dawn. In 1966 New Year was not a bank holiday in England but we were so close to Scotland that the Carlisle residents celebrated Hogmanay and nothing at all was open! We conquered Carlisle castle leaving a Charlton flag hanging from a flagpole. The Charlton players could not believe that 50 fans had travelled so far. This game saw the inception of the organised chanting that became the covered end choir at the next home game against Wolves. O Yes, after taking the lead at Brunton park we lost 3-1.
