Mount Wilson 100" telescope sees First Light

2nd November, 1917

The 100" telescope at the Mount Wilson Observatory in Southern California, USA took its first look at the night sky on November 2nd, 1917. In the early hours of the morning, a small crowd led by the designer of the telescope, George Ellery Hale and Walter Adams, Assistant director of the Obersvatory turned the telescope towards Jupiter and were delighted with the view.
