Bob Peatling, one of our distinguished Arnhem Veterans has written both a new book No Surrender at Arnhem and republished his 1994 book Without Tradition - 2 PARA 1941-45
His original book Without Tradition is a must for any past or present 2 PARA soldier, for it is the basis of our history our standards and our pride. It is not just Bobs work; but is a very well edited collection of articles, letters, maps, pictures etc many written by our original heroes. It starts with Hardwick Hall and Ringway and goes on to Bruneval, North Africa, Sicily, Italy and of course Arnhem, and finally P.O.W experiences. It also contains full appendices of all those who were killed and where they are buried and of 2 PARAs wartime decorations. Reprinted in soft back by Pen & Sword Books Ltd priced at £12-99p Bobs new book No Surrender at Arnhem is his personal account of his experience as a young soldier in his first action - at Arnhem he is cut off as the temporary batman to the Regimental Signals Officer, but with courage, enterprise, obstinacy and luck avoids being killed or captured. He then hides , eventually with Dutch help from September 1944 to April 1945 until liberated by the canadians. It is a epic story, based on a diary , written by a man who became a journalist. I stayed up all night to read it, I just couldnt put it down. Copies are available from the author:- Without Tradition dedicated by the Author costs £12-99p post free. Geoffrey Howlett |
