Control Systems in Force

 Bulgaria Owners of resident cats and dogs are responsible for providing vaccination cover for their animals. Imported dogs and cats must be accompanied by a certificate of origin bearing information on the vaccination history.

Regional veterinary authorities carry out annual campaigns to eradicate rabies in wildlife.

Czech Republic Rresident dogs and cats require rabies vaccination. Imported dogs and cats must have a valid certificate of rabies vaccination.

 Estonia Requirements for resident dogs and cats not known. Imported dogs and cats require a valid certificate of rabies vaccination.

 Hungary Resident dogs require rabies vaccination and registration but neither are obligatory for cats. Imported dogs and cats must be accompanied by a valid certificate of rabies vaccination. Imports are vaccinated again within seven days of arrival. A programme to eradicate rabies through oral vaccination of foxes has been carried out since 1992.

Latvia Not known.

Lithuania Resident dogs require vaccination against rabies but it is not obligatory for cats. Imported dogs and cats require a passport detailing recent vaccinations.

A limited oral vaccination programme to eliminate rabies in wildlife was introduced in 1994.

Poland Resident dogs have to be tattooed and vaccinated against rabies. Vaccination and identification are not obligatory for cats. Imported dogs and cats must be accompanied by a health certificate and valid certificate of rabies vaccination.

A programme to eradicate rabies through oral vaccination of foxes is under way.

Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia Not known.
