THE  NEW  PLANET

The space shuttle blasted off into the black depths of space. Zooming past planets it set off on its mission, to colonise the new planet. After a few days in lightspeed drive the spaceship slowed down and entered the new planet’s mini solar system. Ten minutes later it gently touched down on the new planet.

Slowly I turned the heavy airlock wheel into the ‘unlock’ position. I heaved the door open and gently stepped down onto the new planet. I knew that I would never forget the sight that met my eyes. The desolate landscape which was covered in red rocks, green hills, and black soil. I turned around and watched as the next colonist stepped gently down to join me. We gripped the flag he had brought and drove it into the dusty soil. We had finally arrived on the new planet.

It wasn’t long before the scientists’ machines indicated that the  atmosphere  was breathable and we were allowed to remove our spacesuits. Then the rest of the colonists came slowly out. Everyone cheered and the Americans did a Mexican wave.

After the celebrations were over everyone started unloading the heavy building materials and the power generators. Slowly but surely the first houses were built. The solar panels where erected and the huge wind generators were assembled and secured on the windy hills. The electricity lines were laid and soon the new planet was humming with electric power. The first city was formed, named New York after one of the biggest cities on the planet Earth.
