LOCAL BEACHES

PAIGNTON & DARTMOUTH STEAM RAILWAY

Steam trains from Paignton, running along the spectacular Torbay coast with superb views across the Bay, inland to Churston and then down to the beautiful Dart estuary to Kingswear for the ferry to historic Dartmouth. Combined river excursions are available.

LIVING COASTS

Living Coasts features a range of fascinating coastal creatures from loud and loveable penguins to playful fur seals, colourful puffins to waders and sea ducks. There are reconstructed sandy beaches, rugged cliff-faces and tranquil estuary. A huge meshed aviary allows the birds to fly free over your head, while special windows and a tunnel give stunning crystal clear views of the birds and seals underwater.

THE GOLDEN HIND

Re-live Drakes incredible world voyage of 1577 aboard this full sized replica, moored in Brixham harbour. The ship gives a fascinating, hands on and exciting experience to life on board in 16th Centuary, enthralling and delighting thousands of visitors young and old alike.

OLDWAY MANSION

The magnificent legacy of Paignton's most colourful family - the Singers of sewing machine fame. Inspired by French and Italian architecture, the grand marble staircase and the gallery modelled on the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles is a must see. Beautiful gardens surround the Mansion, formal gardens to the South of the house and the Italian Style garden, located to the east. There is also a less formal garden, featuring a grotto, two ponds, a waterall and a wide range of subtropical plants.

BABBACOMBE CLIFF RAILWAY

Babbacombe Cliff Railway has been operating since 1926. Following refurbishment after the war the cliff railway was re-opened in the early 1950's. Now more than 250,000 passengers are carried safely each season to enjoy the delights of Oddicombe Beach and the access to coastal walks in both the Petitor and Babbacombe directions.

COCKINGTON

A visit to Torbay is not complete until you have seen the world famous village of Cockington and the stately Manor house - Cockington Court. Nestling deep in a hidden valley right in the heart of Torbay, Cockington is still surrounded by tranquil countryside. Generations of visitors have been charmed by its unchanging beauty.


 

KENTS CAVERN

Torquay's Historic Archeological Site. Discovery tours take you through these prehistoric caves to reveal half a million years of history. Victorian excavations uncovered a wealth of archeological remains of animals and people who used these caves thousands of years ago. Absorb the artistry in the stalactite and stalagmite formations as you wander through the passages and chambers in these famous caves including The Cave of Inscriptions, Clinnicks Passage, The Rocky Chamber, The Bears Den, plus many more...

PAIGNTON PIER

The pier comprises of an entrance building at the shoreward end along with what looks to be several individual pavilion buildings connected along the neck. These in fact form one single amusement arcade through their entire length. At the pier-head there is now an open amusement area containing karts, slides and carousal.
