Unreleased British Blues Albums
Ok I admit it, it's a total scam but for one moment imagine...

You are the record company. You have so much cash flying around rather than invest in a new mega-global talent, it's time to keep those salty 40 come 50 year hoary old blues fans happy and release a devastating set of archive material from the vaults. Instead of just re-mastering John Mayall's Bluebreakers with Eric Clapton and Hard Road you can release a set of diverse incredibly difficult to find material which would have been solid gold classics. Trouble is, they don't exist. But they could, especially if you happen to be an incredibly rich record company who would much rather save me a fortune and release:

The Classic British Blues - Volumes 1, 2, 3, etc etc...

What's more I'll even tell you how to do it! If you trundle through 60's British Blues material three labels stand out. Blue Horizon, responsible for releasing a highly balanced mixture of British and American Blues. Deram/Decca, who released a wide selection of home grown British Blues and R&B acts. The most implausible is the legacy from the pop label, Immediate. The Immediate tapes have always been widely denigrated for the commercial ruthlessness and exploitative manner in which they were released and used. The tracks regardless of their dubious heritage are a fascinating insight into some of the fringe talents and impromptu recordings of major artists of the period.

Much of this material was endlessly re-cycled in the "World of Blues" and "Blues Anthology" samplers at the time. If however you take two steps back, gathered all the material together you could end up with unique documents which feature some stunning playing. Add that to the cross-pollination introduced by the Vernon brothers between the black American artists who required backing bands for European gigs and the feisty British bluesers who wanted to record with their
