Dear Parents

I am sorry I have hardly been outside this term to greet you and the children on arrival and departure from school.  For those parents who are not aware I have been teaching Year 6 since Easter as their teacher is currently absent due to ill health.  I will be with you again soon but in the meantime if you do need to see me, call into the Year 6 classroom or make an appointment via Mrs Matthews.

Meadows Tournament

Congratulations to the Y3/4 football team who won the competition.  The match report is on display in school.  Thank you to Mr Goodacre and Mr Bullock for organizing the team.  Well done to the Y5/6 football team who reached the semi final but were knocked out having lost 1-0.  Thank you to Mr Madeley for his support and help.

Unfortunately due to the rain the netball tournament was cancelled as the court was too slippery.  Thank you to the team, Mrs Bramley Astle and Mrs Marshall for turning up ready to play.

To parents who helped the teams or went along to watch thank you very much for your support and encouragement.

Shobnall Hockey Tournament

Congratulations to the Y3/4 Hockey Team who won the Shobnall Hockey Tournament and to the Y5/6 Hockey Team who were placed 2nd after losing the final 1-0.  Match reports which are on display in school detail some exciting, nail biting and victorious matches with William Gilbert pupils displaying skill and excellent sportsmanship.

A very big thank you to Mrs Hooker and Mrs Rogers for supporting this event and training the teams.

Swimming

Year 3 are currently attending swimming lessons following on from Year 5 and 4.  I have been notified once again by the bus driver, swimming instructors, staff at Belper Leisure Centre and members of the public, that following in the footsteps of Year 5 and Year 4 the children’s behaviour and conduct must be commented on for being exemplary.  Well done Year 3 for maintaining this reputation.

Commemoration Service – Thursday 26 May 2005

This is the day when we celebrate the history of our school and attend St Alkmunds Church for a special service led by Reverend Pickles and Years 6, beginning at 2.00pm.  I extend a very warm welcome to all parents, relatives and friends of the school, to attend the service.

All Year 6 will need to wear their winter uniform (collar and tie).

All pupils, Reception – Year 6, will walk to Church from school.  Nursery pupils may attend the nursery as normal.  The service will end at approximately 3.00pm and pupils are dismissed from Church at that time.  It is essential that all pupils are collected from Church at 3pm and that they are clear who is collecting them.  In exceptional circumstances pupils can be escorted back to school to be dismissed at 3.30pm.  If you wish your child/children to be escorted back to school please inform me in writing.

Class Photo’s

A reminder that the school photographer will be coming into school on Friday 20 May in order to take class photographs.

Walk to School Week – 23 – 27 May 2005

Derbyshire County Council are once again running a ‘Walk to School’ week which we have agreed to support.  Please help us to support this event by encouraging your child to walk to school if at all possible.

Head Lice

We seem to have a problem with headlice once again.  Please check your child’s hair thoroughly in order to keep this problem under control.

Surplus Computer Monitors

After the refurbishment of the ICT Suite we have several computer monitors which are surplus to requirements.  These are available to parents for a small donation to the school. Please contact either Mrs Ridley or Mrs Matthews.

Yours sincerely
